#5: Be a support system!!!
I'm the kind of person who loves babies. Gush! I love the tiny little details about them. Their cheeks, their smile and their laugh but am also someone who's unsure about having babies.
Last week, my kid sister was asking my mom how a baby is formed and the whole delivery process. My mom gave her details as much as she could and it was scary. The whole process of delivery looked so painful because I've seen what it looks like in some YouTube videos. Imagine someone going into labor for 10hrs!!!! Aaaaaahhhhhh!!! I can't stand that pain.
I told my mom I was going to adopt, rather than go through that but she said "That's what makes you a woman" she went on to telling me it's the joy of every woman to have their child and feel all the feels by themselves. I still couldn't reason with her because of the picture I had in my head. I didn't want to have any of the pains.
You see, that's how some life situations are. They look really scary especially when you have a glimpse of it and you decide you don't want to go through with it. Partly because of what you've heard and saw but have you experienced it? No. You can't say you know how something feels like if you've not experienced it. You can't say you know how someone feels if you've not been in their shoes, so stop telling people "I know how you feel" when you haven't been there!!!!
I know there are ugly experiences which we wouldn't even wish our enemies to experience but when comforting someone, don't tell them you know how they feel cause they'll expect you to help them through that pain. They'll look expectantly on you to ease them of the burden and when that happens what will you do? Lie to them? Or shun away? Nooo. That's not fair.
When someone is going through pains(like loss of a person or trauma) it's best to tell them "I don't know how you feel or what this feels like but if you need someone to talk to am here. If you need to cry or lash out am here" that's you giving them support. They don't want your lies or pretence. They want your support. They need a support system which can hold them.
Try to be a support system today for that friend who thinks all is lost. For they person who's in pain. For that person who's overwhelmed.
What I've been up to:
*I've been lazzyyy and unproductive
*Still reading Desiring God
*My youth president recommended a book for me to read. I'll probably start this week
P.S. I'm sorry I couldn't write last Thursday. I had battery issues. Oh and Happy New Month 🤭
Till next time, stay safe and be JOYFUL ❤️. See you on Thursday.
Love,
Jola 🌹
